Intercom is an AI-based messaging platform that automates business communications. It sends over 500 million chats between 600 million-plus active users monthly.
When Intercom started, it gave away its web products for free and survived by selling a bug tracker. Years later, its Irish founders turned the tech startup into a unicorn (billion-dollar) company.
Intercom first floated its intention to join the public market in 2021. Will the Intercom IPO finally happen this year? Find out here!
Financial data analyst PrivCo estimates Intercom’s post-money valuation at $1 billion to $10 billion as of January 2021. The AI messaging platform has completed eight funding rounds, amassing $291.9 million in total.
With all that money raised, Intercom would need to sell for $2.9 billion to make investors happy. For founders and employees to cash out, the sale value has to match at least the total funding.
Here’s a summary of Intercom’s funding over the years:

Intercom’s investor lineup includes 33 backers, with Sprints and ICONIQ Growth being the most recent ones to join in.
Additionally, Intercom has made strategic investments of its own. On April 27, 2023, it invested in Ctrl, another tech startup, during a $9 million seed round.
Currently, there’s no official word on the exact date of the Intercom IPO.
Earlier reports hinted that Intercom is gearing up for a public debut this year. Jaime Moreno de los Rios, the COO of Secfi, confirmed this.
Note: Secfi provides financial services and advice to startup employees.
Since Intercom’s shares have yet to be listed, there’s currently no share price available to the public.
Details of the IPO will come into view as the offering date approaches, so stay informed through credible news sources.
While Intercom is still a private firm, you can invest in pre-IPO shares. There are two ways to do this: through employee stock options or by buying private shares as an accredited investor.
One potential scenario is that the company might never go public. On the upside, the likelihood of this is low, considering the ongoing online buzz about an impending Intercom IPO.
While reports of a potential Intercom IPO in 2023 have been making the rounds online, we have yet to hear an official announcement.
But whether Intercom goes public or stays private, the future of the customer messaging startup will continue to interest tech-savvy investors.
